Started in New Britain, USA, in 1843, Frederick Stanley created a small shop, to manufacture bolts, hinges, and other hardware from wrought iron. With consistent innovation and improvement, the company, then known as 'The Stanley Works', defined excellence, and so did its' products.
Block planes are small woodworking planes with a single cutting iron laid on a plane bed at a low angle (20° or less) with a cutting edge bevel on the upper side of the blade. The low angled cutter makes the tool ideal for working the end grain of wood. The small handy size of a block plane also makes it useful for finishing small pieces of work. This plane has an adjustable mouth which can be set in position from a narrow fine mouth, through to a wide open mouth, for coarse work. The adjusting mechanism is controlled by a lever located under the front brass knob.
Made from grey cast iron, best steel, brass and alloy. This is plane is complete and comes in the original box and still wrapped in the original waxed paper.
A very solid and substantial plane, in excellent, used condition.
Has been lightly cleaned to keep the original patina.
Aged related wear.
